Plain tile fittings
Plain tile fittings are the specially shaped tiles that finish a roof or tile-hung wall at its edges and corners. Tudor handmakes eave and top tiles, gable tiles, and 90° external and internal angles, in the same clay, sands and colours as our plain tiles.

Fittings for edges and corners

Eave and top tiles
Catalogue no. 16
Shorter tiles that start the double overlap at the eaves and finish it under the ridge.
Gable tile
Catalogue no. 12
A wider tile for the verge at a gable end.

External angle
Catalogue no. 13
Wraps an outside corner of a tile-hung wall. 265 mm long, 90°.

Internal angle
Catalogue no. 18
Lines an inside corner of a tile-hung wall. 265 mm long, 90°.
Why plain tile fittings matter
A handmade roof is only as good as its edges. Fittings made from the same clay and sand as the tiles weather the same way, so corners, verges and eaves don’t stand out as the roof ages.
Angles are made at 90° as standard. Other angles, and fittings for unusual details, can be made to order. About bespoke fittings.
Peg tile roofs use a peg eave instead of an eave tile: see Kent peg tiles. For the top and corners of the roof, see ridge tiles and hip and valley tiles.

Questions about plain tile fittings
What are eave tiles?
Shorter tiles laid as the first course at the eaves, so the double overlap of a plain tile roof starts correctly. Top tiles do the same job under the ridge.
What angle are your angle tiles?
90 degrees as standard. Other angles can be made to order.
Where are external and internal angles used?
Mostly on tile-hung walls, where the tiling turns an outside or inside corner.
