Handmade roof tiles for new builds
Handmade roof tiles for new builds give a new house the character of an old one: each tile varies slightly in size, camber and colour, so the roof never looks machine-flat. Tudor tiles are on new homes, schools and supermarkets, and they are tested and guaranteed like any modern product.
Character from the first day
A new roof of machine-made tiles looks new for years. Handmade tiles have the variation of an old roof from the day they go on, which is why they are chosen for new homes in villages and conservation areas, and by self-builders who want a period look.
Plain tiles can also be hung on walls to give a new house the kerb appeal of a Kent or Sussex cottage. About tile hanging.
Handmade roof tiles, tested like any modern tile
Every Tudor tile is made to BS EN 1304 with UKCA and CE marking, and tested by Lucideon for strength, water impermeability and frost resistance. A 30-year durability guarantee applies when the tiles are registered. See the certificates.
Designs no one else has
Handmaking is far more flexible than machine-making, so unusual sizes and shapes are possible. For King’s College School in Wimbledon, Hopkins Architects specified six bespoke designs, each in two colours, including arrowheads 400 mm long and 100 mm wide. The building won several awards in 2018 and 2019.
