Paul at Tudor Roof Tiles

Paul John Lythgoe
Shareholder & Advisor

Paul has steered the company since 2001 to 2021 in the role of MD. Previous to this he worked 25 years in wall and floor tile manufacturing across the globe.

Paul said: “At Tudor, we really care about preserving the appearance of old roofs, or creating stunning new roofs, using genuinely handmade in England clay peg tiles."

“Tudor tiles combine traditional features of old English clay tiles with an extra levels of detailing, individuality and quality".

"All our tiles are strengthened by advanced gas kiln firing techniques to give exceptional strength and durability.”

Tudor started in 1986 at Ashford in Kent. The company has achieved its declared aim of producing authentic hand-made clay tiles of the highest quality, which are regarded by many users and specifiers as among the best available. Due to growing demand for its products the company soon required more space and in 1992 moved to its present freehold site at Lydd on Romney Marsh.
All tiles are hand moulded and fittings are cut individually from the lump. Sand is then applied to the tile face giving each tile a variable colouring. This traditional process, combined with specially developed firing techniques, imparts the unique character to all the company's output. The skilled workforce has the satisfaction of knowing that it is providing a first class product with the finest aesthetic qualities.
Our customers also have the assurance of knowing that the company complies with UKCA and CE Marking to British and European standard EN 1304:2013, which aims to provide for externally tested and verified quality of roof tiles.
The range of tiles and fittings is comprehensive: plain tiles, eaves, gables, hips, valleys, plain and vented ridges, ornamentals, external and internal angles. In addition, we also produce traditional Kent peg tiles, eaves, gables and tapered tiles for roundels on oast houses or similar turreted roofs. All tiles and fittings are available in standard or bespoke sizes in all traditional colours.
Our products are used on the full range of new and refurbished buildings from private residences, commercial developments, agricultural buildings, barn and oast conversions to grand historic houses, churches and other listed buildings. We have also exported to continental Europe, North America and the Far East. Projects deserving a mention include Wimbledon Music School, supermarkets for Sainsbury's and Waitrose, the restoration of the Royal Horticultural Society's building at Wisley, the Inigo Jones Theatre at the site of the new Globe in Southwark, the main roof of the Church of St Mary in Castro at Dover Castle and a number of National Trust and English Heritage properties.
With all Tudor products made in Britain, we at Tudor are proud that our products continue a long established tradition that contributes to improving the environment and preserving part of our national heritage.
